Creating Impact Since 1961. For over 60 years, Hetlinger Developmental Services, Inc. has empowered individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through programs that promote independence, growth, and community participation. Founded by dedicated parents in 1961, Hetlinger has evolved to provide a wide range of services for individuals throughout Lyon County. Over the years, the organization has expanded its facilities and programs to meet changing needs, including horticultural therapy and adult services. In 2024, Hetlinger partnered with the Emporia Arts Council to establish Hetlinger Creates, a creative space where artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities can explore their talents, develop artistic skills, create original artwork, and potentially earn income from their work. Open year-round, Hetlinger Creates offers access to art studios, technology, and opportunities to connect with the local arts community. Through more than six decades of service, Hetlinger remains committed to empowering individuals, creating opportunities, and strengthening the community.
